ADDITIONAL INFO:   According to “Goins’ Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings” Anton Wingen Jr. started making knives circa 1875 and continued at least until the time Goins book was published which was 1998. To the best of my knowledge they are still in business. This company made it a lot contract knives for American companies. The design and composition of this knife is rare, yet similar to many that I have seen which were exported to the US after the end of World War II when Germany began rebuilding. It seems some of the cutlery companies that had escaped direct bombing at the end of World War II were able to recover quickly and begin production. Some GIs who had served in Germany started companies importing German knives to the US. I believe this Knife was probably made in that era, from the late 1940s to the 1960s. As with all handles made from natural materials such as bone or antler sometimes there can be small cracks or lines in the makeup of the scales. The original sheath is missing a couple of stitches at the bottom, while the metal reinforcement is fully intact. Please see pictures for full description. A great knife with superb carbon steel! Tight Pommel and Hilt. NOS. New Old Stock. A unique Find For You To Purchase. It will serve you for a lifetime and then passed down from Generation to Generation.
