Description
Up for your consideration is a Vintage American Balance Corporation Type AN Model 2012 Class 2 Assay/Apothecary Scale.  This scale was manufactured by American Balance Corporation out of New Rochelle, New York.  Bearing a State of Arizona Department of Weights and Measures seal dated 1963, this scale was last calibrated Jan. 2, 1986.
The specifications are as follows:
Grade 1, Weighing Capacity: 200 Grams, Rated Sensitivity MG. 1/20, Maximum Sensitivity Reciprocal Allowable MG: 0.4, Beam Arm Ratio Accuracy Parts Per Million: 10, Accuracy and Precision MG: 0.2; Magnet Positions for Pan Loads of: 1-50 Grams: 30, 100-200 Grams: 30.
The measurements of the case are: 18 inches wide at the widest, 17 1/4 inches tall and 10 1/4 inches deep at it's deepest.  This scale weighs 32 lbs.
This scale comes with a history.  Sometime between 2:00 and 3:00 in the morning on May 18th, 2017, a criminal attempted to break into our shop.  He shot through the window and the bullet struck the scale which was sitting on a table, first going through the glass on the side before exiting through the glass on the back of the case of this scale.  Amazingly, none of the parts inside were hit.  By the way, the criminal was not successful and was later caught and we never found the bullet.
In terms of condition, this balance scale is missing the two frogs that the pans hang from and is there may be some other parts missing.  The glass platform on the bottom of the case is cracked as a result of the scale having been shot.  As for the glass, I am not a glass specialist, but it looks like it could be replaced without too much trouble.  Please note, the weights are not included. This would be a great scale for restoration.
