    Description

Offered for sale is an antique and original early 20th century WWI era large poster sized patriotic pre pin-up lithographic art print. A lovely image by James Ross Bryson featuring a sad eyed, hauntingly beautiful Art Nouveau maiden draped in a patriotic red, white and blue American flag. This was printed during the conflict of World War I (1914-1918, the artist died shortly before the end of the war). The hardships endured and the staggering loss of life make this stoic and sad eyed yet determined beautiful maiden really resonate. She is the antithesis of the World War II Victory Girl and this is a poignant and haunting tribute that is among our favorite print images of all time.
This was not a time for celebration but a time for stoic reflection and this image is mesmerizing. J. Ross Bryson was a prolific early 1900s Calendar artist who worked for The Thos. D. Murphy Calendar company among other firms. He created numerous incarnations of what was known as "The Bryson Girl", and his ladies were risque and provocative for the day. We have several of his original pastels and he really was a pioneer in the pin-up art field. His style clearly influenced Rolf Armstrong, Earl Moran, Zoe Mozert and other later day pastel calendar pin-up artists. Just a fantastic Coshocton Ohio estate find that was printed by the Parker - Brawner Litho Co. Washington D. C.
    In wonderful un-circulated near mint archived condition - measuring a substantial 15" x 20 1/2"
As always is 100% guaranteed vintage and original as always from GrapefruitMoonGallery.
Due to the unique nature, rarity, and age, all items are being sold in found condition, as described and pictured.
