This miniature painted by Nuru-ud-din, an artist in raja Anup Singh’s court at Bikaner, is based on mahakavi Keshavdas Rasikapriya, the most widely illustrated work of medieval Hindi poetry. The verse of Rasikapriya depicts through an episode the universal element of female jealousy. One day Krishna, while enjoying swinging, takes with him on the swing a gopi other than Radha. This behavior or Krishna offends Radha whose love for Krishna will not tolerate any one in between. Her hurt heart melts to tears that ooze from her eyes like showers. Grief stricken as she is, Radha retires to a secluded bower. Hearing of Radha’s sad plight the gopi who accompanied Krishna in the swing comes to him and prays to go and conciliate Radha who is like a bud which once suppressed may not bloom ever after.
The artist seems to have slightly changed the episode. The upper part of the painting relates to the first part of the episode, though with some change. Krishna is alone on the swing. He has his eyes fixed on Radha who is setting in the porch, or on terrace. Radha too is looking at Krishna. The artist seems to suggest that Krishna expected Radha to join him and Radha to be asked for it. Thus ego on both ends obstructs union and offends both. In the lower part Krishna is seen sitting inside one bower and Radha inside the other. The eyes and faces both betray grief and pain. It is at this moment that a gopi comes to Krishna and prays him to go to Radha and conciliate her for Radha who is like a bud which once crushed does not bloom again, will lose for ever her glow if she goes on shedding her tears like that .from the action of gopis’s hands she appears to assert that being a male and the mightier he is expected to have a broader, wider And more liberal mind and a greater Responsibility   towards Radha who has tagged with him all her love and feelings.
Bikaner art is known for its mughal elements but save for the delicate facial features this painting is nearer to indigenous Rajput consciousness. Its simple rendering coupled with great Emotionality Reflects in it the flok-art Elements whereas in its fine Draughtsman ship Technical execution and use of softer tones of colours and their Unique mix it speaks of a highly developed Art form.
