Description
Up for bids is a very nice, vintage pair of contemporary candlesticks. It is unclear whether they are solid brass or simply have a brass finish (maybe the latter). However, the finish is definitely a nicelypolished
brass. The candleholder portion is fastened to a drip plate (for the melting wax), and those in turn are fastened to a three-legged inverted arch piece, which sets on the table. Lots of sleek curves here consistent with Mid-century Modern decor. I believe they date to the 1960's, as they are marked "Made in Japan" on the bottom. (I think they would be consistent with the post-WWII manufacturing in Japan at that time.) There is no specific manufacturer name. Given the time period, they are made with very good quality and are very sturdy.
The candlesticks measure about 5" at their widest point, and they are about 5.5" tall. They are in excellent condition, although they would probably benefit from a bit of polishing. Each weighs
a very solid 1 lb. They have
been well cared for in my family for at least 50 years. They were seldom used, having been mostly kept as decorative items on our dining room table. After all these years, it seems like time to allow them to move on to a new home where they can be more fully appreciated. You will be hard pressed to find a nicer pair! They are a useful set for their intended purpose, or they would make any excellent addition to any collection of vintage brass accessories.
If you purchase multiple items at the same time, I will combine shipping. If you have any questions, please contact me. (Note that this is not my full-time job, so while I will strive to answer questions expeditiously, I may not be able to do so immediately.) My goal is to make the transaction a positive experience for both sides, so if you have any concerns, please let me know. Thank you for viewing my auction.
